The Dominion Cup is the homebrew competition hosted by the James River Homebrewers every year. Although this competition has traditionally been quite large, we decided that due to the challenges faced by 2020, that we would focus on a smaller quality competition than trying to do something large. As a result, there are some things that are VERY different this year, so please read the rules carefully.
This year, all first round judging will be done via Zoom. See the volunteer section for more information on how that will work. The Best of Show round will be done in person, but limited to only those judging or staff involved.
We are limiting the total entries to 99. Due to the need for judges to get individual bottles for the first round, 3 bottles per entry must be submitted. There is a limit of 2 entries per person. The cost per entry is still $10. Note that you must pay for your entry in order to reserve your spot.
There will be no Mini Best of Show judging this year. This means that all of the beers for a virtual table will be judged by the same judge panel. As usual, some categories will be combined for the virtual table, but we also may need to split some categories across virtual tables if a large number of entries are submitted for that category. If categories are split, then it will be done randomly. Awards will be given based on their place at the table at which they are judged. Entries will be judged according to the category they were entered in accordance with the 2015 BJCP Guidelines.
The competition will be open to all Beer Styles from the 2015 BJCP Guidelines, but no Mead or Cider will be judged this year.
Winners will be announced on the website and through social media after the Best of Show round is complete. Score sheets will be scanned into the website, but will not be delivered in person.
