Please note that this year, all first round judging will be ONLINE. However, we still have traditional time slots to sign up for judging. It is important that you are available for the sessions you sign up for, as we will pair you with another judge and provide you with the ZOOM information for that timeslot.
Due to the first round judging being online, we will not be using stewards this year. We will still be looking for volunteers to help with the sorting and labeling of the entries, however, so if you are available to help with that, then please contact the organizers.
We ask that all judges have some experience judging - BJCP is preferred. If you have never judged before, please contact the organizers before signing up so we can discuss the process. The virtual process is a little less conducive than in person for new judge mentoring, but we will work with you on a case by case basis.
IMPORTANT - if you are not in the immediate Richmond Area (Richmond, Hanover, Henrico, Chesterfield, Petersburg), then you must be able to pick up the entries from a designated drop off point prior to the judging session. We will not be shipping the beers to you. You must also be able to keep the beers for your session chilled at the appropriate temperature prior to judging.
We will provide the following supplies to each judge: Entries for their flight; All Paperwork for the Flight (Score sheets, cover sheets, Flight Summary Sheets, stickers, etc.); Approved Cups for judging. Judges are responsible for any additional supplies such as paper towels, bottle openers, flashlights, pencils, etc.
Judging will take place during the session time signed up for. It is very important that judging is done during this time with the judging partner. A Zoom link will be sent to all participants for the judging session. Once the judges have joined the Zoom session, we will discuss together the format and answer any questions and then use Zoom Breakout Rooms for each virtual table. If you have questions or need clarification on anything, you can request the Zoom host join your Breakout Room and we will do what we can do help.
When judging is complete, we will arrange to collect the paperwork from you. This can be done either virtually or physically but must be done within a few days of first round judging being complete so we can make sure we have everything we need for the Best of Show Round.
If you are willing to judge Best of Show round, please sign up for that session. Note that signing up does not guarantee a spot at the BOS table - we will pick from the most qualified judges and invite them to the session. Best of Show will be done IN PERSON, with social distancing, at an undisclosed location to help keep it as safe as possible.
